Mount West Insurance has a great deal of experience with both Risk Management and Insurance. Our team believes that we have an opportunity to start something new and put a positive stamp on an industry that has substantially deteriorated by a significant amount of consolidation. Our plan to accomplish this is simple: put people first and give back to our community. We work in an industry that doesn’t involve a tangible product, the people and community we work in are everything.
SENIOR MANAGEMENT
Paul Rea, CEO
Paul has held several leadership and management positions in both the risk management and energy services industries. Paul joined one of the largest energy brokerages in the early 2000s and held various positions within that firm in both Calgary, Grande Prairie, and Red Deer regions. These positions included two major roles, first as an Energy Broker, and the second as a Senior Account Executive of both mid to large-sized energy accounts. Paul has over 20 years of direct experience in the Oil & Gas sector, 12 of which were spent at a large cap risk management firm, and as a partner in his own Insurance Brokerage.
Paul’s 20-plus years of experience, industry specific training and education from Mount Royal College – Bachelor of Business Administration and Insurance have not only given him an extensive understanding of the Insurance Industry, but also the Oil & Gas and Transportation Industries.
He is also a dedicated volunteer on several boards throughout Red Deer, including The Red Deer Minor Hockey Association, Central Alberta Oilmen’s, and the Oilfield Technical Society. Where each of these roles allowed him to participate in a number of memorable charity events.
Jason Scheyen, CPA CA, CFO
Jason is an experienced accountant, finance, and operations executive with more than 15 years in C suite roles. With these roles Jason has worked long term in both the US and Canada and has travelled extensively around the world for business. Jason has built and sold several of his own companies between 2010 and today. Most recently, in October 2021, he sold his business interest in PVT Group after 4+ years of growing the business.
He is also an enthusiastic community builder with many years dedicated to volunteering on numerous boards throughout the province, including as President of the Red Deer Regional Airport where he led the airport through a multi million-dollar expansion of its runway in order to land scheduled passenger flights, and as President of Autism Society Alberta where he led the team from no recurring funding to more than $1M annually now and built an additional focus of supporting Autism in Indigenous communities.
As a lifelong learner Jason holds 1 Masters degree and 2 Bachelor degrees in finance, accounting, and education. Jason earned his CPA CA articling at the worlds largest personal services firm, PwC. Additionally, Jason has passed level II of the CFA test, and has taken the Canadian Securities Course. Jason is a movie buff and also enjoys spending time on fitness and outdoor recreation. Jason has 3 daughters aged 11, 13, and 15.
